Gaining more expertise in multinational context
Nikon Metrology was looking for a Business Controlling Manager. Waiting for the vacancy to be filled in, Project Consultant Massiel joined the finance team, in order to securing the continuity of the business controlling activities. She also assisted in putting in place a new Business Unit structure at Nikon Metrology Europe.
With the acquisition of Metris in 2009, Nikon enlarged its portfolio with optical 3D measuring instruments. The division ‘Nikon Metrology’ offers the broadest range of metrology solutions for applications ranging from miniature electronics to the largest aircrafts. Nikon Metrology’s innovative measuring and precision instruments contribute to a high performance design-through-manufacturing process that allows manufacturers to deliver premium quality products in a shorter time.
The client already had a positive experience with TriFinance within another team of the European Finance Department. That’s why they asked TriFinance to support them with a senior consultant to help them to fill in the Business Controlling Manager vacancy and to set up a new Business Unit Analyst framework.
There were two big challenges: Setting up a new framework for the Business Analyst domain within a brand-new Business Unit structure at Nikon; and to handle and manage the assignment within a full restructuring of Nikon Metrology Europe.
The scope of the project was multifold:
• Setting the right KPI’s to advise (Business Unit) management proactively
• Set up and manage periodical Business Unit reports
• Optimize the budget processes and tools
• Control business results & costs
• Coordination & monitoring of stock counts, slow movers, capex-budget & -stock, recoveries
• Front-end credit-management
• Analyze the BU budget, identify points of attention and define action plans
• Carry out monthly variance analyses in order to measure the performance in relation to the budget
• Safeguarding Internal Control procedures
• (People) management of the Cash-in Coordinator
Nikon succeeded in the set-up of the new structure for their Business Analyst framework including the revised management of their business controlling tasks.
The management and colleagues valued a lot TriFinance’s professional, proactive and positive mindset, as well as the delivery of superb work in the fairly short time frame of 4 months.
Furthermore, Massiel trained 3 new Business Analysts - by Business Unit - to continue the work she had started. She prepared and provided guidelines and documentation to guarantee a future continuity.
Thanks to Massiel’s profound expertise in Controlling and Business Analysis, she was able to set up in a short period a brand-new business structure to address Nikon’s corporate controlling & analysis needs within an environment going through restructuring. During this assignment, Massiel managed to improve her people management, treasury and communication skills. “With his project I gained more expertise on how to handle complex business analyst projects and necessary organizational set-up - including change management - within a multinational environment.”
